Vladimir Zelensky still remains for many a “dark horse”, many still do not know his plans. But some positions on the eve of the second round he announced in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. However, many have more questions than answers.
In particular, on a question, whether he considers Putin the enemy, Zelensky answered — “of course”.
It is worth Recalling that two weeks ago Zelensky said he was ready to negotiate with Putin, adding that he considers it important to conduct a dialogue with Moscow “in the presence of Western representatives.”
Regarding Donbass, the candidate said that he was not going to give the region a special status of Donbass and sign the law on Amnesty — the key points of the Minsk agreements.
In addition, in his previous statements, Zelensky did not mention “Minsk-2” at all, speaking about the need to return to the “Normandy format” with the involvement of the US and the UK. He has repeatedly stressed that he does not see the subjects of negotiations in Donetsk and Lugansk.
Answering the question about Stepan Bandera, Zelensky said: “Stepan Bandera is a hero for some percent of Ukrainians, and this is normal and cool. This is one of those people who defended the freedom of Ukraine.”At the same time, he curtsied towards the South-East, saying that he plans to record video messages to them with the aim of “uniting the country”.
“I will tell them every day: look, NATO is not a beast, it will not swallow you. Look at that. Let people think, let them start reading about it, let them start studying,” he said.
— As for Zelensky’s response to Putin, there are several reasons why he said so, — said the Chairman of the Union of political emigrants and political prisoners of Ukraine Larisa Shesler.
— First, he wants to keep the votes of Western Ukraine. In the South-East it has no alternative, these voters will never vote for Poroshenko, regardless of Zelensky’s statements. The West and the center of Ukraine were most exposed to Russophobic brainwashing, therefore, they want to hear from Zelensky’s lips that for him Putin is the same enemy, as for them.
Secondly, to some extent, it remains the voice of Kolomoisky, who at one time also spoke sharply to Putin. Third, Zelensky himself in his views — a classic Ukrainian man in the street, a limited opportunist, and Russophobia very much coincides with his personal perception.
Today he has no idea whether he will have to meet with Putin. By the way, it is quite possible that in the near future it will be as undesirable for Russian diplomacy as Saakashvili once was.
“— Zelensky does not intend to grant special status to Donbass and sign the law on Amnesty as it is provided by the Minsk agreements. That is, he says that “Minsk-2” can be buried?
— His statements indicate a complete misunderstanding of the political processes associated with the Minsk agreements, the ignorance of the commitments undertaken by Ukraine.
Again, he tries to fit into the picture of the perception of the voter from Western Ukraine, and demonstrates, as it seems to him, the tough position of the Ukrainian patriot. “Minsk-2” need not be buried — he buried long ago. More than four years have passed since the adoption of these agreements, but there is no peace in the Donbas. With the advent, Zelensky hope for its resuscitation is very slim.
The phrase “there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements” remains a meaningless mantra, since any promotion looks like a betrayal, both for the Ukrainian side and for Donbass
— Zelensky is going to convince donbasstsev that they, first of all, Ukrainians…
— Within five years, the Kiev authorities have consistently cut off the residents of Donbass from Ukraine, seeking pressure and deprivation “to punish the rebels.” Hundreds of thousands of pensioners are deprived of pensions, special permits of the SBU are required to cross the contact line, a food blockade has been arranged, the authorities are doing everything to deprive citizens living in the Donbas of their civil rights. Now it is obvious that the opposite effect is achieved. Even Ukrainian-speaking residents of Luhansk and Donetsk regions cease to associate themselves with Ukraine, receiving though tiny, but still regular benefits from Russia, where food and energy come from.
Zelensky declares that he wants to break this blockade by restoring normal ties between Ukraine and Donbass. But this, just, is extremely difficult to do. Non-payment of pensions to pensioners of Donbass saves huge sums in the stunted Ukrainian budget, and the situation with the budget deficit in the near future will only worsen.
Ukraine has nothing to support pensioners who live in the rest of the territory, and it is impossible to find additional money for Donbass at all. But I do not exclude that on the border with Donbass put some radio towers, and will believe that they win the information war with Russia. Most likely, this sham will end the desire to “return to Donetsk Ukrainians in Ukraine”.
“— Zelensky also called the heroization of Bandera “cool”. What reaction does he expect from the South-East?
Position Zelensky “Benedict” is still gradually transformirovalsya in “your and your”.
Voters in the South-East of Ukraine will perceive such revelations of Zelensky as inevitable diplomatic formulas, empty in content. Voters of the West and the Central part perceive these words about Bandera as a marker — “the”.
Of course, disappointment in Zelensky is inevitable, but now he really was the leader of the presidential race
“SP”: — at the same Time, most Ukrainians are still concerned about the reduction of tariffs and the fight against corruption. If there’s something to show Zelensky or only the bare slogans?
— It is clear that the rapid impoverishment of the population of Ukraine forms a priority request to reduce extortionate tariffs for utilities.
But in this field, Zelensky can hardly expect any significant results. If in the times of Yanukovych-Azarov low tariffs for gas and electricity for the population were compensated by tariffs for industry, today this resource is generally exhausted — industry today cannot be a source of subsidies due to a sharp drop in profitability. In the near future, the situation will be aggravated by Russia’s decision to ban the export of energy resources to Ukraine and the reduction of gas transit through Ukraine after the introduction of the Nord stream -2 and Turkish stream pipelines. In addition, the economy of Ukraine will have huge payments on foreign debt.
But on the field of fight against corruption have Zelensky, the situation may be winning. As in his time Saakashvili, he may well hit the pocket and Poroshenko and Akhmetov and Firtash, which will cause rapid approval from the population.
The fight against corruption can be supported by American curators, who plan to finally make the management of Ukraine cheap and predictable.
How big do you think his chances of winning are?
— The chance to become President of Zelensky is very high against the background of the huge negative that feeds the population of Ukraine to Poroshenko. His voter sees in him honest and incorruptible Goloborodko whom he plays in series “the Servant of the people”.
Maidan, which was supposed to be the door to a bright European future, turned into a monstrous corruption and loss of territory. Now people are told that the cause of all ills is corruption.
And few people realize that the main cause of all ills is the disintegration of the common space, deindustrialization and social degradation caused by nationalism.
These diseases can not be cured by anti-corruption courts and prosecutors, you can not get rid of them by eliminating bribes at customs.
— Zelensky does not have any stable position on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass, as it will be determined by the political forces with which he will be able to agree after the elections, — said the political observer of the newspaper “2000” Dmitry Galkin.
— Of particular concern is that Kolomoisky, apparently, agreed on an Alliance with Avakov. Accordingly, Zelensky, who, at least for the first time will depend on Kolomoisky, will be forced to resort to the rhetoric that is attractive to radical nationalists, which relies on Avakov.
However, we can assume that Zelensky will not escalate the Donbass conflict, because among his voters there are many who supported him, hoping that he, unlike Poroshenko, will seek an end to the armed confrontation. However, we should not forget that many representatives of the leadership of the DPR and LPR are not interested in the transition to a peaceful settlement, and Avakov, who is likely not too concerned about the political fate of Zelensky, will gladly use any pretext to escalate tensions to consolidate his own position.
— what counts Zelensky, Bandera?
— First, Zelensky spoke rather cautiously. He said that Stepan Bandera fought for the freedom of Ukraine, and for many Ukrainians is a hero, but the number of objects named after him is excessive. I think that a significant part of the residents of the South-East is fully satisfied with this position. Second, those who belong to Bandera’s negative anyway, under any circumstances, do not vote for Poroshenko, but because Zelensky should not worry that they will lose their voices.
Zelensky had to get Tymoshenko’s voters (who won in Ivano-Frankivsk region), and therefore he had to show that he expresses the opinion of not only the voters of the South-East but also the residents of other regions. Do not forget that Zelensky won in all regions of Ukraine, except three in the West and two in the East, including such as Rivne and Volyn, which in their moods are not fundamentally different from Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv. And there was a real danger that voters in the Western regions could go to Poroshenko in the second round.
— Zelensky called Putin the enemy. How is he going to communicate with Moscow in the case of the election?
: — in His own words Zelensky actually buries “Minsk-2”?
He says that Avakov and senior military officials not to worry, the transition from confrontation to a political settlement in the Donbass in the near future will not happen, but because of their economic interests and political influence is not in danger. Zelensky is now much more concerned about internal problems than foreign policy.
— Zelensky offers to convince donbasstsev and Crimean Ukrainians. How it can look in practice and what will result?
— If the Ukrainian government does not pay pensions and benefits to residents of the LPR and DPR, as well as those residents of the Crimea who have kept Ukrainian passports, any propaganda will be ineffective. If the Ukrainian authorities find the necessary means for this, then thanks to effective policy in the population of these regions, it is possible to awaken nostalgia for “life in Ukraine”. It is clear that the proportion of those who will experience such a feeling will be significantly higher in the Donbas than in the Crimea. While it is difficult to say how effective will be such an information policy because nothing like the Ukrainian government under Poroshenko was engaged
