The decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on simplified issuance of Russian passports to residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s Republics could lead to new sanctions from Washington it was declared by the special representative of the US State Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker.
“Over the past few years, the United States has imposed many different sanctions against Russia: because of the annexation of Crimea, which took place five years ago, because of Russia’s failure to fulfill the Minsk agreements on Donbass, because of the capture of Ukrainian sailors in the Kerch Strait, because of the attempt on Skripal in Salisbury. I do not exclude anything in the future,” said Volker.
However, he added that Washington has not yet made any decisions on this matter.
According to him, the United States is concerned about the situation and considers the decision of the Russian President as an alleged “provocation that is exactly contrary to the plan for the reintegration of these territories back to Ukraine, as stated in the Minsk agreements.”
