The official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China Gao Feng at a press briefing said that from January to April this year the volume of soybean supplies to China amounted to 24.39 million tons, a decrease of 7.9%, while the volume of imports from the US amounted to 4.31 million tons, which is 70.6% less than the same period last year.
For comparison, the volume of soybean supplies to China from Brazil for the same period amounted to 15.496 million tons, showing an increase of 46.8%, the import of Argentinean soybean reached 2.15 million tons, an increase of 23 times compared to the same period last year.
Measures of trade protectionism from the US also affected the import of pork. According to Gao Feng, in the period from January to April this year, the volume of pork imports to China amounted to 774 thousand tons, a decrease of 0.9%, while the volume of deliveries of this product from the US amounted to 70 thousand tons, showing a decrease of 53.6%. Meanwhile, imports from Spain, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, and other countries increased significantly, reaching more than 10% for each exporter.
Gao Feng noted that from the above two groups of indicators can be seen that the policy of trade protectionism and bullying by the United States has dealt a huge blow to bilateral trade in agricultural products, causing harm to the United States and other countries.
