Paris supported Zelensky’s idea of negotiations with Russia
Any meetings on the settlement in the Donbas do not contradict the Normandy format, said in Paris.
Paris welcomes the initiative of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is stated in the statement of the French Foreign Ministry, released on Tuesday, July 9.»France welcomes the readiness of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to start a dialogue with his Russian counterpart on the settlement of the crisis between the two countries,» the report said.
At the same time, the French foreign Ministry recalled that «the meetings in the so-called Normandy format are aimed at facilitating the implementation of the commitments made by the parties under the Minsk agreements, which constitute an agreed basis for the settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.» «These meetings do not exclude any other diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving this goal, and complement, in particular, the discussions in the Trilateral contact group under the auspices of the OSCE,» explained in Paris.
Earlier, the Kremlin said that they would study Zelinsky’s proposal to hold talks in Minsk with the participation of the UK, USA, Germany, and France.
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the new proposals on Donbas should take into account the UN Security Council resolution on the Minsk agreements and direct dialogue with «LDPR».
