The Kremlin told what was not discussed at the meeting of Putin and Pompeo. The parties did not touch upon such topics as the situation in Ukraine and the Baring Vostok case. At the same time, there is no question of any breakthrough in the dialogue.
The assistant to the President of Russia Yury Ushakov told about what topics were not touched upon at the meeting of Vladimir Putin with the Secretary of state of the United States of America Mike Pompeo. According to Ushakov, the dialogue focused on the international agenda. But they did not discuss the situation in Ukraine, as well as the case of Baring Vostok founder Michael Calvi, who is under house arrest because of charges of embezzlement of 2.5 billion rubles.
However, the parties briefly exchanged views on the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Washington. However, no breakthrough in bilateral relations is not felt yet, Ushakov added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had the impression of Donald trump’s readiness to normalize the dialogue between the Kremlin and the White House. And the American President on may 13 proposed to hold talks at the highest level within the framework of the G20 summit in Japan.
Conversation with Lavrov
Earlier, Mike Pompeo held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. As the Russian Foreign Minister noted, during the meeting an agreement was reached on the resumption of the normal operation of communication channels between the Kremlin and the White House.
At the same time, the Russian diplomat stressed that a new, “more responsible and constructive matrix of mutual perception of problems” is possible only if the American side is interested in this.
Pompeo, in particular, stressed that there are many areas where the interests of Russia and the States converge closely.
