FORMER U.S. SECRETARY of state: PUTIN was PREPARED TO TRUMP the FIRST MEETING AT the G20
Former us Secretary of state Rex Tillerson said that the first meeting with Vladimir Putin, which was held in the framework of the G20 summit in 2017, us President was ready much worse than the leader of Russia. This Tillerson said at a special closed hearing in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the house of representatives of the US Congress.
He noted that Washington expected a short meeting of a more Protocol nature, and was not ready for long negotiations for more than two hours, during which the presidents discussed a wide range of geopolitical issues.
«We talked for a long time about how Putin used every opportunity to push his position. The difference in the level of preparedness of the presidents was great, and because of this there was an unequal situation,» Tillerson said.
Experts also note that, given the vast experience of Putin and his savvy, in different levels of preparedness of the two leaders is not surprising, but for the United States this situation is risky.
«Putin is a very skilled opponent who has been engaged in all this for 20 years. The meeting in Hamburg looks like the embodiment of Putin’s most cherished dreams: an unlimited behind-the-scenes conversation with us President,» said the expert on Russia of the Carnegie Foundation Andrew Weiss.
