Berlin will help Zelensky to crush Donbass German boot
Deputies of the German Bundestag from the faction of the Free democratic party of Germany (FDP) proposed a new strategy to resolve the situation in the Donbass. This was reported by the newspaper Bild.
The strategy was called «the World in Ukraine needs a new impetus». The document assumes to involve the UN mission or additional forces of the German civil police for rendering «bigger pressure» and «intimidation» of Russia. The deputies are confident that this step will help to persuade the parties to negotiate and bring the resolution of the conflict closer.
In particular, the Deputy Renata Alt said that Germany should support Ukraine even more, as well as act more «decisively». She also appreciated the decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the simplified receipt of Russian passports — in her opinion, he makes it clear that Moscow «despises a peaceful solution to the conflict.»
Recall, the corresponding decree was signed by the Russian leader on April 24, and he received a lot of critical responses, both from Ukrainian politicians and in the West. The essence of this criticism is that Moscow allegedly legalizes the «occupation», although, according to the official position of Russia — this is done for humanitarian reasons.
It should be noted that the winner of the presidential elections in Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky expressed a desire to hold talks with the Russian leader, but only in the «Normandy format», in the presence of the heads of Germany and France. He expressed hope that at the next meeting in the «Normandy format» Russia will show readiness for de-escalation. In his opinion, the exchange of citizens of the two countries in the format of «all for all»can be a step towards a settlement. The President-elect is sure that «real normalization» will happen only after the «complete de-occupation» of Donbass and Crimea.
«Ukraine does not give up! In every sense of the word,» he stressed.
We also recall that the topic of entering the UN peacekeeping contingent into the conflict zone has been discussed for a long time. Moscow is not against the introduction of peacekeepers but believes that the mission is needed only to protect the OSCE staff and should be located on the line of demarcation. The Ukrainian side and the Western countries supporting it insist on the introduction of peacekeepers to the entire depth of the conflict zone, up to the border with Russia. Besides, in Kiev insist that as a part of the mission there shouldn’t be Russians and citizens from the allied countries of Russia.
— In the Parliament of each country has its own «freaks» — says political scientist Alexander Dudchak.
— Probably, such a role like Renata Viola of the FDP, to the engineer-chemist by training. Perhaps she is not quite aware of what is happening in the Donbass and is not interested in the problems of Ukraine. From such statements pulls naphthalene, they are not constructive and meaningless.
It seems that they received a grant from Soros together with texts that should be voiced to the delight of American partners.
«SP»: — Than they can scare Russia? New sanctions?
— Renata Alt has a technical education, so at least she can cope with the calculator — why can’t she calculate the losses incurred by Germany and the lost jobs due to participation in sanctions?
«SP»: — Can Berlin play any new role in the Ukrainian issue with the emergence of a new President in this country?
— Berlin could play an important role in the Ukrainian issue, if Mrs. Merkel recognized that in February 2014 Germany made not just a mistake, but a crime, without condemning the coup in the country, one of the consequences of which was the war in the Donbass.
— It is the agony of the German position concerning Donbass, — the expert of the Center of the political analysis Andrey Tikhonov is sure.
— Offer to send German police (that is, the most that neither is a policeman!) it’s not even revanchism, it’s idiocy. FDP — ultraliberal party, it cannot be suspected of Imperial phantom pain, it’s just uncomplicated reading Hayek’s consciousness.
«SP»: — do you Support other parties of the FDP?
— Free Democrats have always been the third superfluous, their role was to create a coalition with one of the big parties. With the advent of «green» and this role came to naught. It remains only to engage in searchlight. However, «green» may well support colleagues. They are also prone to radicalism.
«SP»: — Than they can scare Russia?
— Germany itself can not scare Russia. Free Democrats can count on friends from overseas.
«SP»: — What does the change of President of Ukraine for Germany?
— For Germany, Zelensky is a new chance. It is no secret that Merkel was against Poroshenko, lobbying Klitschko. Now Berlin has the opportunity to become a senior partner of Kiev and push Washington.
— The free democratic party could not agree after the last elections on the creation of a coalition with the CDU-CSU, mainly because of disagreements on the issue of refugees, and therefore now periodically criticizes the ruling coalition, — recalls the political observer of the Ukrainian newspaper «2000» Dmitry Galkin.
— This time, the FDP faction decided to demonstrate that the government is overly flirting with Russia and does not dare to take decisive measures to resolve the Donbass conflict.
«SP»: — will other parties support The initiative?
— Most likely, the FDP bill will not receive support from other parliamentary parties: the parties from the CDU-CSU and SPD coalition will not voluntarily complicate the situation. «Left», «Alternative for Germany» does not share the opinion that Russia needs to increase the pressure. «Green» is direct electoral competitors of the FDP (although theoretically, they can support their initiative).
«SP»: — How adequate is this proposal, given that Moscow’s position on this issue is unchanged and well known?
— This initiative is not aimed at taking any concrete steps, but at demonstrating that Russia should be under increased pressure to force it to agree to a political settlement in the Donbas as soon as possible. The FDP proposal is not practical, but symbolic. Will there be any change with the change of power in Ukraine, the policy of Berlin in this direction?
— Berlin’s policy will remain unchanged. Germany will support the Ukrainian leadership on issues of fundamental importance (such as the preservation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine), counter the escalation of the Donbass conflict and call on the warring parties to its peaceful settlement. Berlin will most likely not make any additional efforts to force Russia to agree to the return of Donbass to the political space of Ukraine.
«SP»: — will Zelensky Cling to this initiative? How can his relations with Germany develop?
— Zelensky now needs to demonstrate that there are some other ways of peaceful settlement in the Donbass, except for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. On the one hand, it cannot achieve the adoption of laws on Amnesty and on the special status of the LPR-DPR within Ukraine (which is necessary for the implementation of the Minsk agreements). On the other hand, it must demonstrate good will and desire to end the armed confrontation, otherwise, it will quickly lose the current level of public support. In such a situation, it would be perfectly logical for him to pretend that the FDP initiative is of great practical importance.
