Another attack proved that the Russian S-300 powerless before the EW of Israel
On Wednesday, the Israeli army has struck again in South-Western Syria. The goal this time was the strategic elevation of tel al-Hara, from which the Golan Heights are clearly visible. Syrian media related to the local government reported that the damage was caused exclusively material — there were no civilian or military casualties. A total of six missiles were fired, some of which were successfully shot down by air defense systems. The reasons for the impact are not reported. Sources in Israel say about some Iranian activity in the affected area. Version is pretty weak when you consider that so close to the Israeli border, the Persians are not for a long time.
The peculiarity of this attack from the IDF was the active use of electronic warfare systems. This was reported by official sources in the Syrian army. Sana News Agency reports that the radar systems were affected in the form of interference, which significantly hampered the ability to repel the next attack. In itself, this fact, despite the absence of serious damage, is quite remarkable. It is simply not clear why the Israelis need to use advanced technology in the fight against outdated Syrian technology? Previously, they repeatedly did without EW and were very, very successful. Apparently, in this case, there are certain subtleties. Perhaps tel Aviv used new technologies, want to test them in action. Given that the Jewish state is one of the leaders of the region in electronics, this option is possible. Their weapons and other equipment are constantly being upgraded, so there is a need for regular field tests. There is another version — Israel was trying to test how effective the newer systems of Russian production against its EW. Russians and Israelis constantly have to intersect in Western Syria, because the question of unspoken competition arises by itself. Even if the parties do not plan anything against each other, you still have to be ready. That’s Tel Aviv and looks. And then there is the question of how Israeli electronic warfare threat to Russian air defense systems.
One of our military sources, who wished to remain anonymous, believes that there is a certain threat to Russia. Of course, there is no risk that Israel, using its electronic jamming systems, will strike at our targets. However, Tel Aviv can thus bypass our radar and other control systems, therefore, to strike at one or another part of the SAR for it will be easier than ever. The case of Darya confirms this. For example, the S-400 are unique installations, and whatever technology the Israelis have, they are almost powerless. However, due to the need for integration into the Syrian air defense systems may expose some problems. For example, the use of common frequencies with the old Syrian air defense systems. With the S-300, the situation is even worse — the Israelis have long known the approach to them, because they have been studied many times, gaining access through third countries that purchased complexes from us.
Russian military expert Alexei Leonov a bit different opinion. For the Syrians, the expert believes, the Israeli EW systems are very dangerous, but against the Russian systems of the fourth generation, they are almost powerless.
— Israel has long used electronic warfare systems. The first time they used them just against Syria, against the Soviet complexes of the second generation. It was in the seventies, the place of action — the Golan Heights (we are talking about the so-called War of doomsday — ed.). This led to the complete destruction of all Syrian air defense systems. The principle of operation was simple — electronic warfare systems put interference, and air defense systems are actually blinded, making them completely ineffective. After that, the planes of the IDF could only strike at these useless complexes. Much time has passed since then, but Israel, as we can see, still uses similar systems from time to time. Just during the civil war in the SAR, they had a great expanse. For example, Israel was able to strike deep into Syrian territory. It would have been impossible without the bypass air defense systems — that is using electronic warfare and avoided them. But if you look at this confrontation historically, it should be noted that even the C-200 complexes have an upgraded version that effectively fought this problem. The warhead was significantly reworked. For example, if there were planes in the sky, and one of them was equipped with on-Board EW systems, the missile was aimed at him as the main supplier of interference. Of course, now technology has stepped forward and many principles have changed. How dangerous are Israeli EW for Syrian and Russian air defense systems?
— To suppress the Syrian air defense system for them is no difficulty. Firstly, for the reason that tel Aviv is one of the leaders in this area, and secondly, the Syrian air defense systems in most cases are hopelessly outdated. But for the Russian, they do not pose such a threat. They do not fully understand the device, for example, S-400. And for this reason, in the sky over the SAR and near its air borders are often us intelligence aircraft or Israel. They’re trying to pick up the keys to the C-400 and our fourth-generation complexes. But they fail. These difficulties are the reason that Israel usually strikes those areas where there are no modern Russian complexes.
